Tiger beetles are brightly colored predators in adult and larval stages. Adults are active hunters, while larvae feed on any unsuspecting insect passing nearby. Tiger beetles can run at a speed of 9 km/h, or about 125 body lengths per second. If a human sprinter would have to run at that speed, it would move around 1000 km/h. While running, the Tiger beetle is moving too fast for its visual system to accurately process images. That is whythe Tiger beetles display an unusual form of pursuit in which they alternatively sprint quickly toward their prey, then stop and visually reorient. The Tiger beelte is the fastest moving land apex hunter.
